Job Summary

Help Empower Youth Through Music and Arts: Are you passionate about supporting youth empowerment through music and arts education? Do you have professional experience and skills you’d like to share or an opportunity to develop these skills?

YEAH! (Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities) is a Nashville-based nonprofit with a mission to further empower youth of all backgrounds, especially the underrepresented and marginalized, ages 6-17, through transformative, inclusive music education in an equitable community. YEAH! has positively impacted over 700 families in the past 20 years.  

Our members include finance students, professors, and professionals. This is a unique opportunity to lend your financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning expertise to help ensure YEAH!’s continued growth and success. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Board Members hold a fiduciary responsibility for the management of organizational capital and ensuring appropriate filings with federal, state, and local authorities consistent with the organization’s status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Additional required responsibilities include:

  • Board Meetings: Monthly, hybrid format. The attendance policy allows for removal if two consecutive meetings are missed without notice.
  • Strategic Plan: Participation in year-round fundraising and diversity efforts and one of the following committees:  Governance, Finance, Programs, or Marketing. 
  • Annual Donation: $1,000 cash or budget-relieving resources
  • Program Showcases: Attend 2-3 per year
  • Community Events: Attend 1-2 per year
  • Annual Board Meeting: 3-4 hour workshop-style

As a member of the Board Finance Committee, you will play a critical role in shaping YEAH!’s financial future and making a meaningful impact through the following responsibilities:

  • Finance Committee Meetings: Held every fourth Friday of the month from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in a remote format. At least three members must be present to constitute a quorum, and a 2/3 majority vote of attending members is required for a decision.

 

  • Review and Update Fiscal Policies and Procedures: Ensure that financial policies and procedures are current and effective.
  • Collaborate on Budget and Financial Reports: Work together with the team to create and update budgets and financial reports.
  • Advise on Fiscal Responsibilities and Asset Management: Guide YEAH!’s fiscal responsibilities and management of assets.
  • Review Monthly Financial Statements and Policies: Regularly review YEAH!’s financial statements and related policies.
  • Review and Approve the Annual Budget: Collaborate with staff and other board members to review the annual budget, ensuring all expenditures stay within budget and seeking board approval.

In addition to signing a Financial Committee Agreement form, each member will undergo a background check and complete a Conflict of Interest form.

 

Qualifications

To ensure the effective governance and strategic direction of YEAH!, we seek board members with the following qualifications:

1. A passion for music and youth empowerment.

2. Experience in one or more of the following areas: education, non-profit management, finance, law, fundraising, marketing, community outreach, or music/arts education.

3. An active member and contributor in one or more diverse and marginalized communities. 

4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to fundraising efforts, including securing donations and sponsorships.

5. Understanding of and commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within the organization and the community.

6. Willingness and ability to attend regular board meetings, participate in committee and community events, and engage in fundraising activities.

7. Ability to contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans and initiatives.

8. Strong connections within diverse community groups and the ability to leverage those connections to benefit YEAH!.

9. Effective communication and collaboration skills

1. Prior board of directors or leadership experience

4. Event planning and execution

5. Advocacy and public policy experience related to arts, education, and youth programs.
